The home owner's grant reduces the amount of residential property tax you pay (Basic grant starts at $570! That's $570 off your property tax bill!)
Eligibility for the Basic Grant To be eligible for the home owner's grant you must be:
1) Registered owner of the home
2) Be a Canadian citizen or permanent residence of Canada
3) Live in BC
4) Occupy the home as your principal residence
To be eligible for the full grant amount, your property must be assessed under $1,650,000. If your property is valued of $1,650,000 then you may be eligible for a partial grant.
How much is the basic grant? $570 in the Capital Regional District, Metro Vancouver Regional District, and Fraser Valley Regional District. All other areas of BC is $770. If you are over 65 years old, you may be eligible for an additional grant. For more information on eligibility and which grant to apply for, please click here.
